Day 8: Recharging

Day 7, Post-Rally

Once the rally wrapped up at Bandimere Speedway, I drove down to Manitou Springs for another stay at the Villa Motel, this time for two nights.  I planned on taking another day off from driving, as I wanted to get in a good 12½ hours of driving on Tuesday to make my Wednesday drive shorter.

Since I arrived at the Villa to check in around 7:45 pm and The Loop closed at 8:00 pm, I took a drive over to Old Colorado City to see what was open.  I did find a place that served pizza, but I’ll be kind and not mention the restaurant nor the disappointing mess that I received for dinner.

Day 8

The next day, I took care of a few work-related things at the motel room, and went back to downtown Manitou Springs for a walk and  lunch.  This time, I decided to stop at the Border Burger Bar.

They had a lot of burger choices on the menu, plus they also offered the option to substitute the burger patty for a chicken breast, and also had a gluten-free bun option.  I chose a classic burger with caramelized onions, and fresh-cut fries on the side.

Like any good burger, it was completely messy to eat. 😁

After some more walking and a brief stop at the room, I went back to the Garden of the Gods and took another lengthy hike on a couple of the trails around the area.

I can never resist looking over at Pike’s Peak, one of the many 14’ers in Colorado.

After whipping up a hell of an appetite, I could only do the most logical thing possible to erase the memory of last night’s Worst Pizza Ever–head back to The Loop.

I skipped the Blue Margarita this time, but went all out and got the Macho Combo Burrito.  It has a fajita-style filling, and is served sizzling on a fajita platter.

On the side are borracho beans (“drunk” beans) and tempura vegetables, which came with two dipping sauces.  The tempura vegetables are lightly breaded onion straws, and lightly breaded bell peppers.  This portion look like a lot, but peppers and onions are very light.  Never had anything like these before!

Once I waddled my way back to the Villa, I knocked out for the night so I could get out the door early the next morning.
