Day 10: Home…Reluctantly, As Always

I managed to get out the door of the Sleep Inn at 5:47 am.  I wanted to be on the road as soon as I could, and I drove into the sunrise (above).

It was an uneventful day traveling across I-80, breezing across Illinois and shooting through the short Indiana stretch successfully.

But, like every other time I’ve been on a road trip, I come home to the most depressing road sign ever:

Do we have the dumbest state slogan, or what?

I didn’t even bother stopping for lunch–I drove straight through, stopping only for gas and rest area breaks.  (Advice to fellow travelers–Michigan and Indiana have the filthiest rest areas in the country. Plan accordingly.) I arrived home at 3:21 pm, after 7 hours and 55 minutes of driving.

Total mileage for the entire road trip: 4,650 miles.

Next trip is a long weekend in Asheville, NC. Not my favorite part of the country, but it keeps peace in the household.  😉

Footnote: I corrected the pizza situation by ordering a good one locally, the day I arrived home.  😁
